Health Care Reform Update: SBCs
Summary of Benefit Coverage (SBC) Now Required

 

Description: ReimbursementEffective September 23, 2012, the National Health Care Reform law now requires health insurance carriers and group health plans to provide a new health plan disclosure called a Summary of Benefit Coverage (SBC) intended as a short and easy way to understand health plan benefits and coverage. The SBC is required to be in a standardized format allowing for individuals to easily compare available plans at a glance, rather than combing through pages of materials. Please note: this disclosure is not intended to replace Summary Plan Descriptions (SPDs).

For fully insured plans, insurance carriers are required to prepare this summary. For self funded plans, the employer is responsible for the preparation of this disclosure. Those participating or eligible to participate in the health plans have the right to receive an SBC within the specified timing requirements; upon request, at open enrollment, upon being newly eligible or newly hired or if the employee or dependent is eligible for a midyear change. The format and delivery of the SBC in most cases can be in electronic format posted online with paper copies available upon request.

Crosby Employees Give Back To The Community

One group visited Shultz's Guest House in Dedham, a non-profit farm-based rescue group whose sole purpose is to find permanent, loving homes for dogs that have come into unfortunate situations. Our employees took the dogs for walks and helped to clean up.

Description: CommunityServingsThe second group volunteered at Community Servings, an organization located in Jamaica Plain that we have supported in the past. Community Servings plans, cooks, packages, and delivers nutritional meals to critically and chronically ill people and their families. In the time they spent there, our employees enjoyed assembling hundreds of meals.
